4. How to Bring Children into the Presence of God (L1-2-3)

This session speaks to the very heart of the core values of Kids in Ministry International and the great need and importance of creating ongoing experiences in our children's services for kids to experience and encounter the presence of God. Nothing else matters until the child experiences for himself–God's love, His presence, the power of prayer, hearing Him speak to their hearts in words and visions, and feel His anointing as they pray for healing and so much more.

10. Creative Use of Drama (SSCM Level One)

Teacher: Becky Fischer

Packaging the Word of God in creative and interesting ways is key to helping children embrace, enjoy, and love your Bible lessons. As a teaching tool, using creative drama skits is one of the best ways to help kids remember important principles from the Bible.

Drama skits should be in every teacher’s tool belt. It livens up the classroom. It can change the atmosphere from something serious to lighthearted humor. But especially for those using KIMI curriculums, using the drama skits is so important. They present the central core of each lesson into a five minute story line. Every lesson in seven of our curriculums contain excellent drama skits and to leave them out of the KIMI lessons is truly cheating your children. One teenager said once, “I’ve learned more from acting in your skits than I have sitting in Sunday School my whole life!”

Many teachers say, “But our church is small. I don’t have enough people to have a drama team.” Others say, “We just have time to do rehearsals!” This SSCM session is just for you! It shows you FOUR DIFFERENT WAYS use drama skits even if you have no drama team and no practice time.

40. A Father’s Blessing (L1-2-3)

Before Jesus entered his ministry, He received his Father’s public blessing, “This is my son in whom I’m well pleased.” Today, 50% of Generation Z, the children we are ministering to today, are being raised in fatherless homes. That’s the largest percentage in history. It is from our mother’s we receive unconditional love, our character, and our morals. But it is from our father’s we receive our self-image and identity. The father’s blessings, words of love, and encouragement make an unbelievable difference in how a child achieves as he grows up.

Ideas for Churches to Minister to the Fatherless:

RESEARCH AN EXCELLENT CHURCH PROGRAM FOR BOYS CALLED ROYAL RANGERS – like a Christian boy scouts –Godly Christian males in the church lead it. There is another similar Christian group called Trail Life USA.

  • Start a “MENtorship” program where men from your church connect with children who could benefit a relationship with them. I read online that one church had some men come with a car and teach the kids about some basic mechanical maintenance and minor repairs. It was a major hit with both boys and girls. The men then also gave a short Bible study.
  • Pay attention to this need on Father’s Day to create some type of activity that includes children from fatherless homes.
  • Ask grandfathers to come in and build relationships in your children’s services. Also encourage them to create Big Brother type program that will create an opportunity to embrace fatherless boys.
  • Have monthly or quarterly events for men, fathers, uncles, grandfathers that do really masculine things—hiking, fishing, swimming, white water rafting, rock climbing, include lunch, and Bible study
  • One church created a small group for single parent families. The group creates a community for families to support each other and the kids. The adults become aunties and uncles to the kids. A great support network.

1 John 3:1 NLT – “See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!”

9. Creative Teaching Ideas (L1-2-3)

Speaker: Becky Fischer

“Adults teaching” does not necessarily equal “children learning.” Our primary goal in children’s ministry is to make cure children learn the material. If our kids walk out of our classes or services and cannot remember or explain what we taught, then what was the point? It’s important kids learn more than just the Bible stories, but to teach doctrine is not easy. That’s why we need to understand how kids learn, and what makes a great learning experience to impact our children.

Among other concepts, visual aids, object lessons, or illustrated sermons help tremendously towards this goal.

You will go away from this teaching understanding all the elements that make learning happen, as well as how to use object lessons as a vital tool to this process.

14. Presence Driven Family Ministry – SSCM Level Three

KIMI Ohio Director, Alicia White, shares about a topic she know much about — making the presence of Jesus a cornerstone of family life. Where less than 1 out of 10 families will ever read the word of God or pray in their homes together, where less than 1 out of 10 families will ever have a worship experience together in their homes, and where 99% of the time spent at church parents and children are separated, we have lost the family altar.

Cultivating a supernatural righteous generation of children that runs after doing the will and works of Jesus is going to take more than a couple of hours on a Sunday morning or Wednesday night. It is going to take the power and presence of Jesus consuming and overtaking the families of God, driving what we do from the church to the home.
